Gifted as she is with a rare musicality, the yearning for music in Sharmistha, became indeed overpowering and quick came the response from within. Thus started her musical journey at the tender age of six under the tutelage of Sri Nihar Ranjan Bandhopadhyay, the worthy son of the legendary vocalist Late Pandit Satyakinkar Bandhopadhyay of “Vishnupur” Gharana, an institution all by himself in the Musical Firmament of India. On top of that, real mileage of her musical journey attributes under the tutelage of Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty – a name to reckon within the contemporary Musical world of India and abroad.

To strengthen her subjects mainly in the arena of light music, Nazrulgeeti and Bhajan, her learning from late Sri Sukumar Mitra has contributed a lot. To enrich the exemplary craft in her presentation in Light Classical Music and Adhunik, her present Association and Learning from Mrs.Shipra Bose, has put an immense value. Sharmistha’s years of unrelenting practice, coupled with a rare cerebrality in her musical approach, her innate crave for perfection and above all, her melodious and enchanting voice have all combined together to give her music a rare dimension that instantly captures the hearts of the listeners as well as the musical connoisseurs. Since her debut performance at the age of fifteen, Sharmistha has, over the years, been performing in a number of prestigious and reputed music conference and competition throughout the country.

In several occasions, her journey to the European countries mainly at Germany, France, Paris, Spain, Belgium, and Netherlands as well as the neighboring Bangladesh has established a name to reckon within the contemporary Musical World of abroad. Apart from her above-mentioned overseas tour she has also performed in USA, Banga Sammelan 2006 at Houston and many other places in USA. Sharmistha is an “A” grade vocalist of Doordarshan (Indian National Television) and A.I.R. (All India Radio). Besides, her shining musical career, Sharmistha has graduated with Honours in English from the University of Calcutta.
